Lent

This week marks the beginning of the liturgical season of Lent - 40 days of fasting, praying and almsgiving as we prepare for the church's most important celebration - Easter Sunday, when we joyfully remember the resurrection of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.
On Shrove Tuesday, we made pancakes. Traditionally, this day was when everybody ate up all the "goodies" in their pantries - eggs and cream were high in the list.
On Ash Wednesday, we went to mass and received ashes on our forehead. These were from the palms collected last year after Palm Sunday. The ashes remind us to turn away from sin and turn back to God.
We have made our Lenten promises. You can read these on our individual blogs.
