Sketching Wolves

For the past two weeks, we have been learning how to sketch using a 5 point tonal scale. Using our 6B sketching pencils, we followed Mark Crilley's YouTube tutorial on how to sketch a wolf.

We were so excited and proud of our results that many of us carried on at home, and also came to school early to do more before school started.

  1. Dear Room 1,
Wow! I can't wait to get to class on Wednesday and see all the sketches. These are amazing. How long did this take you to do? I have never used 6B pencils. Why are these the ones to use?

    1. Kia ora Mrs Torrie,
We use 6B pencils because they are really good for showing the different shades. They are a lot darker than the ones we use for work in our exercise books - those are just called HBs. It took us two art sessions but most of use finished early because we did them before school and at home.

    2. Dear Room 1,
I saw the display of your sketches in the foyer of the school when I arrived this morning. They look stunning displayed there. You must be very proud of them.
What are you going to draw next?

    3. Namaste Mrs Torrie,
We all chose different ones. We chose dragons, cheetahs, kittens, deer, tigers, leopards and owls. If you want to try sketching one, you can borrow one of our 6B pencils.

Yes we are proud. We have put them up on the wall in the school office for everyone to see. What art are you doing?
